Wet week in Wales

July 2012

450 miles and 6 nights away touring around Wales. We proudly 'showcased' the van to family and friends and chatted about our vague travel plans for the end of the year. We also managed to squeeze in visits to a few places we've never been to before including Abersoch on the Lleyn Peninsula and Solva in Pembrokeshire. All week long the Welsh weather was awful (see photo below) with just one dry day when Dave went surfing and we fitted in a lovely walk around the hills, caves and waterfalls near Ystradfellte, in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Trying not to spend too much we only stayed on official campsites for two nights, one night we 'wild' camped, two nights we parked on friends driveways and one night we were in a comfy double bed with a solid roof over our heads as the rain lashed down outside. I had my first go at driving the beast between Barmouth and Tywyn which took some getting used to, I was dreading meeting a bus on the narrow road round Tal-y-llyn lake and was quite relieved to hand her back to Dave.  I also drove the home leg between Llangorse and Shrewsbury negotiating hills, roundabouts, town traffic and even drove it into a petrol station - scary!

I've been trying to fathom out how to embed maps and images into the blog ready for our rapidly approaching trip through Europe. I'm still trying to get the maps to display as I want them to but I'm glazing over with all the references to HTML, URL's, illegal characters, broken strings, gadgets and widgets - does it really have to be so complicated?!

Typical view from the van window for most of the week!
Newgale beach and wow some blue sky!
